Ivory Coast vs Norway

For 85 minutes in Dallas, Norway looked destined for extra time, until Erling Haaland did what Erling Haaland has made a career of doing.

The striker arrived at the perfect moment, tapping home Patrick Berg's low cutback in the 86th minute to lift Norway to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Côte d'Ivoire and send the Scandinavians into the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 for the first time since 1998.

It was Haaland's fifth goal in just three matches at the tournament and his 60th for Norway, continuing a remarkable scoring streak on the biggest stage. More importantly, it secured the country's first-ever World Cup knockout victory and booked a blockbuster meeting with five-time champions Brazil.

Norway had to earn it against an energetic Côte d'Ivoire side making its own knockout-stage debut.

The Ivorians threatened first, with their pace down the wings causing problems throughout the opening half. Nicolas Pépé came closest after connecting with Yan Diomande's cross, but Norway scrambled the danger away before goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland denied further opportunities.

Instead, it was Norway who struck first through a moment of individual brilliance.

Antonio Nusa, one of the tournament's breakout performers, collected the ball on the left edge of the penalty area in the 39th minute, shifted onto his right foot and curled a superb finish into the far corner beyond Yahia Fofana. The spectacular strike rewarded Norway after they had gradually settled into the contest and gave Ståle Solbakken's side a slender halftime advantage.

Côte d'Ivoire responded after the break, with Emerse Faé introducing Amad Diallo in search of greater attacking threat. The substitution changed the match.

After first producing a goal-line clearance to deny Torbjørn Heggem, Diallo brought his side level in the 74th minute. A clever exchange with Pépé sent the Manchester United winger into the box, where he skipped between defenders before rifling an emphatic finish beyond Nyland.

With momentum swinging toward the African side, the match appeared destined for another 30 minutes.

Instead, Norway's stars combined one final time.

Berg surged into the penalty area before spotting Haaland unmarked six yards from goal. His square pass found the Manchester City forward, who calmly steered home the winner to spark wild celebrations among the Norwegian supporters.

Côte d'Ivoire nearly forced penalties in stoppage time when Diallo whipped a dangerous free kick toward the top corner, but Nyland produced an outstanding save to preserve Norway's historic victory.

Now, 28 years after their unforgettable upset of Brazil in the 1998 group stage, Norway will meet the Seleção once again. With Haaland in unstoppable form and belief growing by the game, Solbakken's side will head to New Jersey dreaming of another famous World Cup chapter.
